Profile

Throughout her life, Mary has been drawn to serving others, whether through playing the piano for Alzheimer’s patients or dedicating her nursing career to adult and geriatric populations. Growing up, her experiences with neighbors, friends and loved ones ignited her passion for this special patient population. Mary says, "I am driven to become an expert in my field and an advocate for a community that is underserved and underappreciated. Nursing has helped me to develop a profound level of compassion and understanding, and it is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to work with older adults while I continue my calling at the highest level.

Mary's mother, a retired nurse and educator, has been the biggest influence in her life. "My mom is my favorite person. She is incredibly generous and she is always ready to take care of those she loves. She demonstrated the importance of helping others simply because we could. I try to live up to her example in my daily life and nursing practice."

"Growing up, I watched my mom, the nurse in our large family, help our relatives and friends across the lifespan, from newborn to end-of-life care. One enduring memory that I carry to my practice is her approach to chronic and serious illnesses. When our loved ones received a new or scary diagnosis, she helped them to think of their illnesses as something to understand, manage and conquer, rather than something to fear. This is my favorite part of patient care - arming patients with the tools, education and confidence to feel that they can manage and advocate for their healthcare needs.

Mary has a special interest in working with vulnerable populations, including older adults, women and their reproductive health needs, and LGBTQIA+ patients. Outside of work, she volunteers with Meals on Wheels, delivering nutritious lunches and dinners to local senior citizens and clients with disabilities. In her free time, she enjoys getting outside with her husband and two kids. She also loves true crime, painting, reading, playing the piano and making sushi.
