The most important part of my job is to care for my patients as if they were my own family. I love what I do and the community I serve. My goal is to help my patients and their families transition through a difficult time in their life with dignity, respect and support.

Dr. Rachel Punke chose this career path because she enjoys the complexity and the problem solving that comes with internal medicine. She has always felt that being an internist gives her the ability to treat her patients as a whole including emotional, psychosocial and spiritual well-being.

Dr. Punke's biggest influence in her life is her mother. She always encourages her to work hard and pursue her interests with passion. Throughout Dr. Punke's life, her mom has always told her "No matter what, just keep smiling" and that attitude has shaped who she is today.

She enjoys giving her patients good news, visiting with them and their families each day. Dr. Punke has a special interest in non-pharmacologic pain control strategies.

Volunteer work is also a passion of hers. She enjoys volunteering at a variety of places in Detroit such as Gleaner's Food Bank, Bottomless Toy Chest, Focus Hope, and many more. When she isn't at work or volunteering she looks forward to traveling with her husband, backpacking and spending time with their dog, Murphy.
