My Approach to Care

To me, treating a patient isn’t just about addressing the individual’s chief complaint. My approach is to gather as much information through rapport and therapeutic discussion to meet the patient where they are and provide quality holistic care. It also means a lot to me to be able to practice in Kalamazoo and make a positive impact in my community.

As a physician assistant, Shelby enjoys being able to come in to work and find solutions to her patient’s health concerns. She enjoys putting the puzzle pieces together, working alongside patients to come up with plans to get them on a path toward better health—whatever that may look like.

Shelby has a lot of family in healthcare so it has always been an interesting career for her. She met a physician assistant in middle school and was hooked immediately when she learned more about the profession—she knew that was her calling and was going to be able to serve others.

Shelby has been greatly influenced by her family and friends: “I wouldn’t be who I am today without my family and friends who have stood by me and supported me throughout my life.”

In her free time, Shelby enjoys spending time with friends and family. She likes to be outside, kayaking, fishing, at the beach, cooking and coaching volleyball.
