Profile

Stephen chose to study medicine because he wanted to create personal connections with patients in times of poor health. He realized early on, while modern medicine fixes a lot of problems, there are times when it falls short of total cure, and patients are still in need of support and compassion. This drove him to pursue studying palliative medicine.

He loves the field of advanced illness and palliative medicine because patients’ stories are big and complex – tragic, usually beautiful and always unique. He has a talented team of social workers, chaplains and nurses who bring unique perspectives to the table. Being able to learn from his colleagues and his patients motivates him every day.

Some of Dr. Morrow’s biggest influencers in his life include his parents, his wife Carrie and their three children. He also credits the University of Notre Dame and its philosophy of social justice and outreach, the opportunity to live and work internationally and the Kalamazoo healthcare community to have impacted the way he practices medicine today.

Outside of work, Stephen enjoys numerous activities including hiking, gardening, beekeeping, harvesting maple syrup, raising chickens, brewing, foraging, cooking, running, reading, studying history and trying new restaurants with his wife. He also spends time volunteering for Family and Children's Services and Saint Augustine Catholic School.
