Profile

Theresa wanted to be a nurse most of her life, but as a registered nurse, she felt like she wanted to do more. She chose to become a nurse practitioner in order to have a bigger impact and chose to specialize in neurology because the brain intrigues her. She loves the challenge of determining how to help patients with neurological disorders. She gets excited about having an opportunity to help patients and families cope with new or ongoing problems. Healthcare can be incredibly intimidating and if Theresa is able to help them feel less scared or frustrated, she feels that she has achieved her goal.

The biggest influence in Theresa's life was watching her mom die of pulmonary fibrosis from rheumatoid arthritis. She was on the transplant list for approximately nine months but had a very rare blood type and many antibodies. She had an amazing nurse practitioner from the Transplant Team that was incredibly honest with not only her mom, but her whole family. She saw what true compassionate care looked like and was determined to model that when she became a NP.

In her free time, Theresa volunteers as the camp nurse for Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (RYLA) camp - a camp for high school students to help them gain leadership skills and build relationships - each summer. She also enjoys doing DIY projects around the house and craft projects, as well as reading for fun.
