My Approach to Care

It is a privilege to work with patients and their families while navigating the complexities of treating their critical illness and injuries. Our multidisciplinary team's dedication to our patients during their PICU stays continues to inspire me.

Dr. Zachary Smith chose a career in pediatric critical care medicine because of the complexities involved in providing care to critically ill and injured patients. He feels that it is very rewarding to be trusted to care for someone's ill or injured child. That trust, along with caring for the patient's critical illness, motivates him. The multidisciplinary teams, consisting of nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, dieticians, rehabilitation services, and physician colleagues, who he has worked have served as the biggest influencers in his life and overall career. These people continue to challenge him to be the most collaborative and well-rounded physician.

Dr. Smith currently volunteers with the YMCA and their summer camp programming. In his free time, he enjoys staying active by going to Orange Theory, travelling, enjoying the outdoors (especially Michigan summers), cooking and creating craft cocktails.
