Where can I get infusion therapy?
Bronson has infusion service locations in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and South Haven. We also offer infusion therapy in Calhoun, Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties through Bronson at Home. Not all services are available at all locations. Call (269) 341-8550 to find out what services are available near you.
What is the process from placing an order to scheduling an appointment?
After your doctor submits an electronic therapy plan or paper order to Bronson, the following takes place:
- The order is triaged by a clinical coordinator and reviewed by a pharmacist.
- The referral coordination team then verifies insurance to obtain prior authorization, if required.
- Once authorization and medication are confirmed, the appointment is scheduled.
- Then a financial navigator will connect patients with resources, if needed.
The referral coordination team works diligently to obtain authorization as quickly as possible. Depending on the insurance provider, the process could take as little as one day or up to 14 business days.
How long does it take to get an appointment?
Appointments are scheduled daily. Based on need, an appointment can be offered the same day, the same week or when the medication is next due. Many medications require precise timing, which is taken into account when scheduling appointments. Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are offered.
Can I call Bronson Infusion Services myself to make an appointment?
Yes – you may call (269) 341-8550 to schedule an appointment, as long as we’ve received the order from your primary care provider and your insurance has approved the medication to be administered. We accept orders from all over the state of Michigan as well as bordering states.
Can I choose the location for my appointment?
We attempt to schedule appointments at the location most convenient for you with a few exceptions. Bronson Infusion Center in Kalamazoo is the only site that treats pediatric patients and Bronson South Haven Infusion Services does not offer all infusion medications.
Can I change locations for future appointments?
If the medication is offered at your preferred location and insurance approval is obtained, you may change locations for future appointments.
Is there anything I have to prepare before my appointment?
The Infusion team will notify you if lab work is required before the appointment. If you have additional concerns, our pharmacy and nursing team can speak with you before, during and after an appointment.
Are there side effects to consider before receiving infusion therapy?
Some therapies can cause an infusion reaction, which may include:
- Skin flushing
- Rash
- Itching
- Changes in heart rate and blood pressure
- Dyspnea or chest discomfort
- Back or abdominal pain
- Fever and/or shaking chills
- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea
While these are not life-threatening side effects, they may make you uncomfortable. Many reactions are preventable and treatable with medication. A reaction often goes away by stopping or slowing the rate of the infusion. Bronson infusion staff will work with your provider to tailor your treatment to ensure you receive your prescribed therapy comfortably.
What role does pharmacy staff play in infusion services?
The pharmacy team is an invaluable resource for both infusion patients and providers, as they work closely with the infusion nurses. They can answer questions or address concerns regarding the treatment prescribed and are available to consult with the providers.
