It's Time to Get Your Flu Vaccine
Bronson is committed to advancing the health of our communities and reminds area residents that it is important to get a flu (influenza) vaccination each year. A flu vaccine can prevent influenza, reduce the severity of symptoms, shorten the duration of illness, reduce missed work and school days and reduce the risk of hospitalization.
Flu Symptoms and Risks
The flu virus can have varying symptoms, including:
- Fever
- Cough
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Sore throat
In more serious situations, the virus can cause complications, some of which can be life-threatening and result in death. It is important to note that some flu symptoms are the same as those for COVID-19. This is another reason why getting vaccinated is important, because without laboratory testing to definitively identify the virus, they may be mistaken for one another.
Why the Flu Vaccine is Important
The best way to prevent the flu is through vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older gets vaccinated each year. The vaccine is available at various Bronson locations. Fees vary based on the location, type of flu vaccine and insurance coverage.

Flu Symptoms, Recovery & When to Call a Provider
If you get the flu, you should:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Stay home.
- Get lots of rest.
- Avoid contact with other people.
Most adults feel better in a week or two, while others, including small children, the elderly and the chronically ill, may have a harder time recovering. In most situations, flu symptoms go away on their own within a week or two and don’t require medical attention.
If you are at high risk for flu complications (adults over the age of 65, children younger than five, pregnant women and people with chronic health problems) you should contact your healthcare provider at the first signs of flu symptoms. Everyone, even if you are not at high risk, should contact your provider if flu symptoms worsen after five days.
