Frequently Asked Questions

Medication Questions

For questions regarding medications, go to MedlinePlus. If you are experiencing any side effects to a medication that we have prescribed, please contact our office immediately and ask to speak with our phone nurse.

What is a DO?

We're glad you asked. There are two kinds of physicians to be licensed for the unlimited practice of medicine: MDs and DOs - doctor of osteopathic medicine - degree. Osteopathic physicians perform surgery and prescribe medicine in hospitals and clinics across the nation. All specialties are represented, from pediatrics to neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery. Whether they're internists or specialists, DOs and MDs use the same tools to practice medicine. The difference is the philosophy of education.

Their training is similar to the training of MDs, with additional attention given to osteopathic manipulation, similar to chiropractic manipulation. Some osteopathic physicians practice manipulation of the spine, although our physicians do not. They believe in the relationship between life's stresses and their impact on disease. They help their patients develop attitudes to prevent illness and improve health outcomes.

Do I have to fast for lab work ordered by my cardiologist?

Your lab work will state fasting if this is necessary. We do ask that you fast for 12 hours before fasting lab work is completed.

Will my insurance cover all of my office visits or testing?

We ask all patients to contact their insurance to verify coverage before they arrive for office appointments or testing. Please check with your primary care provider to see if a referral is necessary before each visit.

I have a question about my bill. Who should I call?

If financial problems arise or you have questions about fees or insurance, please contact our billing office at (269) 373-0412.

Why did another physician or mid-level sign my prescription?

We understand that you have a specific cardiologist in our practice, but in order to speed up the process of prescription turnaround time, we may ask another cardiologist/mid-level to sign your prescriptions.

What is a mid-level provider?

We at Bronson Advanced Cardiac Healthcare have mid-level providers called physician assistants and nurse practitioners who assist our physicians in your cardiac care, whether it be in the hospital setting or office setting. They work in conjunction with your cardiologist in the diagnosis, treatment and management of your care.

Do I have to go to a specific lab to have my lab work completed?

No, for your convenience, you may go to the laboratory of your choice. Remember that some insurance policies require the use of specific laboratory sites. You may need to check with your insurance to see which laboratories are covered. We do ask that you remember to take your laboratory order with you. If you have misplaced your lab order, please call our office before arrival to the lab so that we may fax the order promptly.

I will be leaving the state for an extended period of time. Is there anything I need to do?

We understand that many of our patients winter in another state. We do ask that you contact our office with a winter address and phone number in the event that we may need to reach you.

Our History

Interventional and general cardiologist Dr. Douglas Wunderly established his practice in Kalamazoo in 1990, later founding Advanced Cardiac Healthcare in February 1992. As the practice expanded, it relocated from the Forum Building on Rose Street to the Bronson Methodist Hospital campus.

Over the years, new specialties and expertise were added. Dr. Joel Reinoehl, an electrophysiologist, joined in 1995, followed by interventional cardiologist Dr. Christopher Rogers in 1997, who advanced the practice’s capabilities in peripheral vascular disease. Drs. Michael Pawlik and Robert Williams expanded general cardiology services, and in 2005, Dr. Thomas Keller Jr. brought additional expertise in interventional and peripheral vascular care. In 2008, Dr. Michael Pack joined the team, specializing in comprehensive echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.

Our physicians bring complementary backgrounds and advanced training, ensuring patients benefit from the latest knowledge and treatments in cardiology.

To improve access to care, satellite offices were opened in Allegan, Battle Creek, Paw Paw, and South Haven. On June 1, 2012, Advanced Cardiac Healthcare partnered with Bronson to form Bronson Advanced Cardiac Healthcare, further enhancing community access while maintaining the highest standards of care.

From the beginning, our philosophy has been to put patients first. We prioritize personal care, trust, and strong physician-patient relationships. As the field of cardiology continues to evolve, our commitment remains the same: to deliver compassionate, high-quality care while staying true to the values on which this practice was founded.
