Certified Personal Trainers
BAC's personal trainers are certified through nationally recognized organizations, such as American Council on Exercise (ACE), Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA), American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and have completed intensive training at the BAC.

BAC Manager of Fitness & Personal Training
Steve earned his bachelor’s degree in Human Performance and Sport Studies with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology/Kinesiology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He also holds a master’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. Steve is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. He has 17 years of experience as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach, and also is HKC-kettlebell certified. As a competitive Olympic-style weightlifter, Steve is a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Club Coach and USA Weightlifting Level 2 Senior Coach.
Dave Bunt, BS, NSCA-CSC
Dave earned a degree in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. He was an intern with WMU's strength and conditioning staff where he worked with several athletic teams. He is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and has many years of personal training experience working with a wide range of clients. Dave’s passion (and specialty) is helping athletes from beginner to elite levels through his unique, specialized sports-performance training. He is passionate about helping all individuals realize their potential, whether their goal is sports performance or overall health and wellness.
Jason Douglas, BS, NSCA-CSCS
A former member of the BAC Fitness staff, Jason has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Jason also is a USA Weightlifting Level 1 coach through USA Weightlifting, and has placed in Competitive Strongman, Bodybuilding and Olympic Weightlifting. He also is certified by FMS to perform the functional movement screening assessment. Jason works to assess and correct any movement or strength deficiency to allow clients to reach their goals.
Laura Howe, BS, ACSM-CPT
Laura earned her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Corporate Fitness/Wellness at Grand Valley State University. A certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine, she also holds certifications for instructing Spinning® classes and TRX group training. Laura has a passion for marathon running and golf. Her longtime competition in golf, including four years as a member of the GVSU Women’s Golf Team, has helped her develop the skills necessary to help others improve their game through fitness. Laura believes in creating a balance in life, especially when raising young children.
Gillian Kozminske, BS, NASM-CPT
Gillian graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. She is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Her passion for health and wellness stems from a background in competitive and collegiate soccer, and the joy of helping others achieve their personal fitness goals. Gillian enjoys working with clients of all ability levels and ages. She hopes that through exercise, nutrition and a balanced lifestyle, she can help guide people to becoming the best version of themselves.
Brian Ladkrood, ACE-CPT
Brian joined the BAC in 2003, bringing along several years of personal training experience. He is a certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise. Brian enjoys working with clients of all fitness levels and age ranges. He especially enjoys introducing the advantages of incorporating strength training and nutrition into his clients' fitness regimen.
Lynn Madsen, BS, ACE-CPT
Lynn earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in Food Science and Human Nutrition. She is an ACE-certified Personal Trainer. In addition to personal training at the BAC, she is also the VP of Sales for MiDAS Foods International, which has given her experience & knowledge in diet and healthy menu planning. Her position at the club is to fulfill a longtime passion of helping others realize exercise is just as beneficial for your mind and spirit as it is for your body. Lynn believes that if we make the choice to follow a well-balanced program of cardio, weight training and proper diet consistently, big changes will occur.
Rob Moore, BS, ACE-CPT
Rob is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. He has a bachelors degree in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. He is passionate about helping others either create or strengthen a healthy lifestyle through fitness, nutrition and education. Rob has a diverse background in sports and bodybuilding. An avid runner, he has completed several 26.2-mile marathons—and one 50-mile ultramarathon. He takes pride in his ability to cater his services to fit with his clients’ goals. Rob has experience working with individuals of all ages and levels of fitness.
Laura Nomura, BS, ACSM-CPT
A certified trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine, she recently received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University. A gymnast for most of her life, she has always been passionate about fitness. Laura likes to make exercise fun, challenging and effective, and she enjoys learning about new and upcoming techniques/regimens. She strives to help people achieve their goals and live a happy, healthy and balanced life.
Sarah Onderlinde, BS, NSCA-CSCS
Sarah graduated from Calvin College earning her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. She is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association. Sarah enjoys working with people of all ages and fitness levels. After running three marathons, she has a new interest in helping others achieve their goals. Certified in pre- and post-natal exercise, she also enjoys training females in pre-natal fitness. Through proper exercise training and nutrition, Sarah hopes to help people improve their quality of life.
Ian Papworth, ACSM, EKGB
Ian comes to the U.S. from the U.K. with 15 years' of experience within Personal Training and Sports Conditioning for Mixed Martial Arts. He has an American Certificate of Sports Medicine and a Sports City and Guilds (UK Qualification), so is an advanced Personal Trainer for peak fitness. Ian's main aim is to use functional exercise, kettlebells, TRX bands and fit balls to produce a strong a lean body for his clients. His sporting interest includes karate (in which he holds a 4th Dan Black Belt and represented England and Great Britain in competition), mixed martial arts and yoga. He has a fun and inventive way to achieve training goals.
Rebekah Schuring-Boos, BS, ACE-CPT
Rebekah began working at the BAC in 2003 while she was studying Exercise Science at Western Michigan University. She began working in the Aquatic Department as a lifeguard and swimming coach. After receiving her certification for personal training from the American Council on Exercise, she began working as a trainer with a variety of clients. Rebekah enjoys working with teens and women of all ages and fitness levels. Her passion is helping others find joy in living a healthy balanced lifestyle. She believes exercise, nutrition, rest and personal enjoyment all play a vital role in achieving your healthiest you!
Sheri Shon, ACE-CGEI/CPT, Specialty Certifications
An ACE-Certified Group Fitness Instructor since 1988, Sheri is driven to provide high-quality, state-of-the-art, safe and relevant continuing education to fitness professionals. Sheri enjoys working with individuals in all aspects of life, teaching and training proper body biomechanics, and working with aging populations. Her expertise is in teaching cardio, strength (HITT) and endurance workouts, group exercise classes, and functional training for longevity. Her other certifications include—Presenter and Master Trainer for Savvier LP: Tabata Bootcamp™ 2012, Gliding™ 2007, Barre™ Above 2014 Master Trainer; Presenter and Master Trainer for Lebert Fitness: LTS LeBARRE™ 2013, LeBOOT™ and LeHIIT™ 2014 Master Trainer; Delay the Disease Master Trainer for Parkinson’s Disease 2012.
Emma Tate, AFAA-CPT
Emma is a certified personal trainer through the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA). Originally from Scotland in the U.K., she has worked in the health, wellness and beauty industries for 13 years. She comes to the BAC with many years of experience as a certified LES MILLS™ instructor in five programs. Emma was awarded LES MILLS™ Elite instructor status in 2013, and she has been a LES MILLS™ Assessor for the last three years. She loves being an active role model for her children and the community, and enjoys weight training, running and interval training. In addition to training clients, she also teaches BODYPUMP™ classes.
Jeff Watts, ACE-CPT
Jeff is a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). He is also certified in TRX group training and CPR/AED from the American Red Cross. Jeff spent 30+ years in business management before pursuing a training career. During that time he had several orthopedic surgeries, and understands how to work with, and around, the individual demands associated with physical rehabilitation and recovery. Jeff’s supportive training style is a fit for men and women of all ages, but may be especially helpful to those mid-life and older in working with the unique challenges associated with aging.
