Pediatric Intensive Care - Bronson Healthcare
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is staffed by a team of doctors and nurses who specialize in providing critical care for children.

The eight-bed PICU uses the latest technology to care for critically ill children. During conscious sedation diagnostic procedures, pediatric patients are assessed and monitored by a pediatric intensivist and a trained pediatric nurse. Four transition beds are available for the care of critical patients or general pediatric patients as necessary.

The Children’s Hospital at Bronson offers two sedation suites available for a variety of pediatric procedures. The suites feature whimsical murals by local artist Susan Teague and furnishings that create a soothing atmosphere for children while they undergo medical procedures.

Children and adolescents are admitted to the PICU for:

  • Trauma
  • Burns
  • Neurological problems
  • Respiratory illness
  • Ingestion/overdose
  • Surgical recovery
  • Dependency on mechanical support
  • Other medical or surgical needs

Patients are admitted directly from the physician’s office, by referral from regional hospitals, by in-house transfer, or from Bronson’s Trauma & Emergency Center.

Medical care is provided by private pediatricians, pediatric intensivists, pediatric hospitalists and specialists such as orthopedic surgeons, trauma surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists and pediatric surgeons. Critical care for our pediatric patients is provided by Bronson Pediatric Referral Service.
