The care in the NICU is provided by a dedicated and highly skilled group of professionals. Specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists are present at all times. Resident physicians training to be pediatricians and neonatal nurse practitioners also care for patients.
A highly qualified transport team is available to bring babies born at regional hospitals to the NICU when they need intensive care. NICU staff also attends all high-risk deliveries in the Bronson BirthPlace delivery rooms to help make sure that all babies can get off to a good start.
Neonatologists are available 24 hours a day, every day. They act as a resource for pediatricians and family doctors in southwest Michigan, answering questions and assisting with care for babies who can be cared for at the hospitals in their own community.
