Bronson HealthCare Midwest Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery - Bronson Healthcare
We offer an innovative and multidisciplinary program designed to treat obesity and the many health problems that accompany this condition.

The American Medical Association recently classified obesity as a disease, not just a public health concern. We are excited about this acknowledgment and want you to know that this disease is treatable! There are many health benefits that individuals can enjoy when they treat their obesity, and we are committed to helping our patients through this process.

New research finds diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea and polycystic ovarian disease, among other health issues associated with obesity are disorders of metabolism. Surgical modification of the stomach and intestines, such as bariatric surgery, may result in substantial improvements or complete resolution of these serious health conditions.

Minimally invasive surgeries we offer:

  • Laparoscopic gastric bypass, also known as gastric surgery
  • Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, also known as gastric sleeve surgery
  • Adjustable gastric banding, also known as gastric band surgery

These surgeries, performed by Dr. Weaver, are available for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater. They are also available for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or greater, and are suffering from health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnea. Insurance coverage and criteria varies. We encourage all patients to contact their insurance companies to determine their exact coverage.

What to Expect

Our fellowship-trained bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon, Dr. Kibwe A. Weaver, MD, performs laparoscopic bariatric (weight loss), bariatric and general surgery with the ultimate commitment to providing comprehensive care, addressing all aspects of his patient's diagnosis. He focuses on minimally invasive techniques resulting in less pain and a faster recovery for his patients.  Dr. Weaver takes extra time to make sure that patients understand the nature of the surgery, and to address any questions or concerns they may have before or after surgery. Ongoing follow-up care is provided to all of his bariatric surgery patients.
