Support Services

We offer convenient, on-site electromyography (EMG) testing. Our lab is the first in Michigan to receive Exemplary Laboratory Accreditation from the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM). This shows our commitment to patients by providing close-to-home access to exceptional diagnostic services and technologies.

About EMG Testing

A simple explanation of an EMG (electromyogram) is that it measures the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. Nerves control the muscles with electrical signals called impulses. These impulses make your muscles react in specific ways. These tests check how well and how fast the nerves are sending electrical signals and in turn how well your spinal cord, nerve roots, nerves and muscles are working.

The conditions shown by an EMG are:
  • Diseases that damage muscle tissue, nerves or the junctions between nerve and muscle. These problems may include a herniated disc, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or myasthenia gravis (MG)
  • The cause of weakness, paralysis or muscle twitching - Problems in a muscle, the nerves supplying a muscle, the spinal cord or the areas of the brain that control a muscle can cause these symptoms. The EMG does not show brain or spinal cord diseases
