$174,000 Raised to Support Children's Health
Runners, walkers, sponsors and donors showed their support for ill and injured children in southwest Michigan during another record-setting fundraising year at Bronson Children’s Hospital Run & Walk. More than $174,000 was raised for programs and services to help hospitalized children during Sunday’s event. That’s a 13 percent increase over the amount raised last year.
Nearly 1,900 people registered for the Run & Walk, which started at Bronson’s downtown Kalamazoo campus. Competitive runners and families completed the 3.1 mile or the 1 mile course, on what turned out to be an unseasonably hot day. Many took part in children’s activities prior to the start of the Run & Walk.
“We can’t say enough about our community members for showing how much they support and care for our young patients and their families through this event,” says Terry Morrow, Bronson’s vice president of development and community health. “The day is not only an opportunity to bring people together for a fun time, it’s also a chance to show that children’s health and well-being is a priority.” In addition to Presenting Sponsor Mall City Mechanical, nearly 40 businesses sponsored the event at various levels.
The money raised goes to the Bronson Health Foundation’s Children’s Hospital Fund. That fund helps support child life and art and music therapy. This year, it will also be used to renovate the pediatric playroom. “These services are all so important to help our young patients not only cope with being in the hospital, but to just be kids,” says Morrow.
The 2018 Bronson Children’s Hospital Run & Walk is scheduled for Sunday, September 30. To check out this year’s race results and watch a video from the event, visit bronsonhealth.com/runwalk.
