Annual Run & Walk Benefits Bronson Children's Hospital

Runners on course in 2017

Competitive runners, walkers and families are gearing up for the annual Bronson Children’s Hospital Run & Walk on Sunday, September 30, 2018. The event in downtown Kalamazoo brings community members together as they head for the finish line in support of children’s health.

As the only children’s hospital in southwest and south central Michigan, Bronson Children’s Hospital provides care in virtually every pediatric specialty. Patients are never turned away because their families cannot pay. When participants sign-up for the Run & Walk to benefit Bronson Children’s Hospital, they are helping to fund life enhancing services for hospitalized children that relieve fear and anxiety, and alleviate pain. These services include child life specialists and art and music therapy. This year’s event will also help fund the parent liaison program, which provides resources, education and support for families with children hospitalized in neonatal intensive care, pediatric intensive care and the pediatrics unit.

“Enriching services like these really provide a boost for our young patients and the family members who spend a significant amount of time in the hospital with them,” says Terry Morrow, Bronson Healthcare vice president of development and community health. “We are incredibly thankful to all of the participants who join us at the run & walk to show these families that they have a whole community of support behind them.”

The 2018 Bronson Children’s Hospital 5K Run & Walk is hosted by the Bronson Health Foundation, along with presenting sponsor Mall City Mechanical. It includes pre- and post-race children’s activities and costumed characters. Western Michigan University Football Coach Tim Lester will kick-off the run as this year’s honorary race starter.

The Run & Walk has a new, earlier start time of 10 a.m., with on-site registration and packet pick up opening at 8:30 a.m. Activities will be open from 9 a.m. until noon. The event takes place on the North Campus of Bronson Methodist Hospital in the parking lot at the corner of John and Lovell streets. In addition to the 3.1 mile (5K) course, a one mile course will also be available. For more details and to sign-up to register or donate, visit or call 269-341-8100.
