Run & Walk Benefits Bronson Children's Hospital
KALAMAZOO, Mich – The region’s premiere fundraising event supporting Bronson Children’s Hospital will take place on Sunday, September 25, 2016 in downtown Kalamazoo. Each year, the Bronson Children’s Hospital 5K Run & Walk draws both competitive runners and families as they turn out in support of children’s health.
When participants sign-up for the 5K Run & Walk, they are helping to fund life enhancing services for ill and injured children served by Bronson Children’s Hospital – the only children’s hospital in the region. While this specialized care helps young patients heal physically, emotionally and psychologically, it is often not covered or only partially covered by insurance. These programs include child life and art and music therapy. This year, the event will also help the Bronson Health Foundation fund a new initiative to create a camera system in the neonatal intensive care unit. This will allow families with hospitalized newborns to log-in to view a live video feed of their baby when they can’t be at the bedside.
The more funds raised by runners and walkers, the more initiatives the Foundation can support. Last year, participation and donations grew by 30%, and momentum is building to meet or exceed that target again in 2016. “It’s great to see the growing support from the community for the 5K each year,” says Terry Morrow, vice president of development and community health for Bronson Healthcare. “It really shows the care and compassion people and businesses in this region have for our young patients.”
Diekema Hamann Architecture + Engineering is the presenting sponsor for the 5K Run & Walk for the third year. “Bronson Children’s Hospital provides excellent pediatric care and services for children in our region,” says President Norman Hamann, Jr. “We are proud to have a role in sustaining that level of care for the community.”
The 2016 Bronson Children’s Hospital 5K Run & Walk kicks off with children’s activities and onsite registration beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 25 at the Bronson Methodist Hospital parking lot at the corner of John and Lovell streets. The race starts at 1 p.m. and will be followed by a brief awards program. In addition to the 5k/3.1 mile course, a 1 mile course will also be available.
