Are you having foot problems? Bronson Battle Creek may be able to help. On Friday, May 10, and each month throughout 2013, BBC is offering free diabetic foot clinics in its Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine Center in the hospital outpatient center (use the parking lot #4 off Emmett Street).
The May exams will be offered any time between 1-4 p.m. Adults age 18 and older are invited to participate. Because space is limited, please call (269) 245-8560 to set up an appointment.
If you have diabetes and are experiencing conditions such as pain, numbness, deformities, wounds, fungus, or ingrown toenails, you are encouraged to attend these free foot clinics. Early identification of foot problems and early intervention prevent problems from worsening, and may avert future complications such as amputations.
Specialists trained in detecting diabetic foot problems will conduct the examinations. Both insulin- and non-dependent individuals with diabetes who are not currently under the care of a podiatrist and who do not have resources to get these services are urged to participate.
The free foot exam and consultation will include:
- Health history
- Neurological (nerve) exam
- Orthopedic (bone structure) analysis
- Diabetic screening (blood sugar test)
- Treatment recommendations or referrals to a physician, if necessary
- X-rays (when appropriate for a fee)
- Dorsalis pedis pulse and posterior tibial pulses
Education is provided by Diabetes Center and Wound Healing Center nursing staff.
Future foot exam sessions will be held on Jun. 7, Jul. 12, Aug. 9, Sep. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, and Dec. 13; all in the BBC outpatient Wound Healing Center from 1-4 p.m. Please call in advance to set up an appointment at (269) 245-8560.
