Bronson Again Ranked In Top 20% of U.S. Health Systems
IBM Watson Health recently released its annual 15 Top Health Systems study identifying the nation’s top-performing health systems based on their overall organizational performance. For the second year in a row, Bronson Healthcare ranked in the top quintile of U.S. health systems demonstrating care consistency and alignment across all four of its hospitals in southwest Michigan – Bronson Battle Creek, Bronson LakeView, Bronson Methodist and Bronson South Haven.
IBM Watson Health’s research is based on clinical, operational, financial, and patient perception-of-care measures that form a balanced scorecard. By finding ways to take balanced performance to the next level, health systems like Bronson are identifying opportunities to deliver greater value to patients, communities, and payers.
Cheryl Knapp, vice president and chief quality officer for Bronson Healthcare, says, “We are extremely proud to learn our overall performance as a health system is among the top 20% in the nation, and we’d like Bronson patients to know that our staff is committed to continuing to raise that bar.”
To conduct the 2019 study, IBM Watson Health researchers reviewed clinical, operational and patient satisfaction data from 2014-2017 for 337 health systems and 2,961 health system member hospitals. It found top-performing health systems had fewer deaths, fewer complications and infections, shorter length of stay, shorter wait times in the emergency department, lower costs and higher patient satisfaction than their peers.
All research was based on these public data sets: Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data, Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) and Patient Satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website.
