Bronson Battle Creek Announces 2016 Excellence in Nursing Award Recipients

Congratulations to the Bronson Battle Creek nurses who were honored during National Nurses' Week.

Bronson Battle Creek Nursing Excellence Award Winners Stand outside hospitalOn Wednesday, May 10, 2017, Bronson Battle Creek recognized a group of exceptional nurses during the Excellence in Nursing Celebration. Nursing Excellence Awards are based on key areas of the Nursing Professional Model of Care: leadership, compassion, respect, expertise and impact. Honorees include:

Pam Griner, BSN, RN, a nurse from the neurovascular unit, received the Nursing Excellence Leadership Award. She was selected for the award for her ability to lead by example. “Pam would not expect her peers to do something she would not be willing to do herself.”

Doris McGann, MSN, RN, a case management nurse, received the Nursing Excellence Compassion Award. McGann exemplifies what it truly means to be a nurse. “Her acts of kindness and love shows how she genuinely cares for her patients."

Kathy Wieas, RN, a nurse from the pre-admission unit, was selected for the Nursing Excellence Respect Award. According to her award nomination, “Kathy is a true advocate for her patients. She always goes above and beyond to ensure they receive a safe, high quality care experience.”

Wendy Todd, BSN, RN, WTA-C, an oncology nurse, received the Nursing Excellence Expertise Award. Todd was nominated and selected for this award because or her desire and ability to be the best nurse possible, and help her fellow nurses grow, too. “She is always someone we can depend on to help her coworkers and mentor new staff."

Mary Vaughn, RN, a nurse on the neurovascular unit, was presented the Nursing Excellence Impact Award. Vaughn was the recipient of this award because “She is on a relentless pursuit to keep patients at the center of all decisions, enhance their experience, and provide a safe environment is truly inspirational.”

In addition to those listed above, eight nurses were recognized with the 2016 DAISY Award. Nominations for the DAISY Award are received throughout the year and honor nurses who meet patient and family needs by going above and beyond the traditional role of nursing. DAISY honorees include: Jennifer Celtrick, RN; Brock DeGroot, RN; Sara Goheen, RN; Sandra Kelly, MSN, APCNP-BC, ACNS-BC; Kara Loren, RN; Krista Meyers, RN; Maggie Oesterreich, BSN, RN, WCC, OMS; Anna Ott, RN.

This year’s Nursing Excellence Award winners and DAISY Award winners represent the high caliber of nursing care at Bronson and are a true testimony to the dedication our nursing staff has to provide the exceptional care that exceeds patient and family expectations.
