The Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) Cancer Care Center is hosting its Fourth Annual Cancer Survivors’ Fashion Show on Thursday, October 24, from 5-8 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, 145 Capital Avenue NE. Cost is $25 per person.
“We are continuing this highly successful fashion show to honor those who are cancer survivors,” said Sha’marie Heberer, an oncology social worker in the BBC Cancer Care Center. “Having said that, those who attend certainly don’t have to have had cancer. This is an opportunity for all of us to enjoy new friends and to be supportive of those who are fighting cancer.”
“We are extremely fortunate to have people among us who have the beauty, strength, and courage to be part of a cancer networking opportunity like this fashion show to help others face this often-deadly disease,” added Sue DeRuiter, RN, BS, CBPN-C, nurse navigator at The Cancer Care Center. “These fashions are being selected to accentuate the grace that we all can have if we maintain a positive outlook and hope toward the future.”
Cancer survivors and BBC cancer healthcare providers will model a number of stunning fall and winter outfits from Coldwater Creek in Kalamazoo. Sherii Sherban, publisher of Scene magazine will serve as mistress of ceremonies. This one-hour fashion show features local cancer survivors and healthcare providers as models. It begins with a dinner and a silent auction, followed by the first half of the fashion show. After an intermission, the fashion show continues.
All proceeds from this show will go toward the hospital’s Cancer Center Medication Fund, Cancer Transitions: Moving Beyond Treatment survivor program, and The Cancer Care Center Image Room.
Programs and services at The Cancer Care Center include support groups, private counseling, a peer support network, mind/body wellness activities, a patient assistance fund, a resource library, and more.
