Bronson Battle Creek Earns ‘A’ for Patient Safety
Bronson Battle Creek (BBC) was recently awarded an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national organization committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Bronson Battle Creek is one of only 855 hospitals in the United States, and the only one in its service area, to be awarded an ‘A’ grade in Fall 2018.
The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade is a highly respected measure of patient safety in the healthcare industry. The organization assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.
“Achieving an ‘A’ score reflects the high caliber of our staff and the emphasis we place on patient safety at Bronson Battle Creek. We strive to deliver an exceptional healthcare experience for every patient, every time and believe public reporting is important so consumers can compare performance and make educated decisions when choosing a hospital,” says Cheryl Knapp, vice president and chief quality officer for Bronson Healthcare.
Developed under the guidance of a National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to the more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals that have chosen to submit data twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
“Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades recognize hospitals like Bronson Battle Creek that focus on advancing patient safety. This ranking provides an important resource for patients, and a benchmark for hospitals, to determine how care at one hospital compares to others in a region,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an A Hospital Safety Grade deserve to be recognized for their efforts in preventing medical harm and errors.”
