The Bronson Battle Creek Cancer Care Center is hosting Lilly Oncology on CanvasSM this month, an art exhibit honoring the journeys traveled by millions of people affected by cancer.
The exhibition, which is free and open to the public, will be displayed in The Cancer Care Center from Monday, August 19 through Friday, August 23 during normal business hours 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“Lilly Oncology on Canvas was created in 2004 by Eli Lilly and Company to recognize the struggles people face when confronted with a cancer diagnosis,” said Sara E. Ray, BSN, RN, office charge nurse at the BBC Cancer Care Center. “The biennial competition invites people diagnosed with any type of cancer, their families and friends, cancer advocates and health care providers to express, through art and narrative, their own cancer feelings. We are extremely fortunate to have this traveling exhibit available in southwest Michigan for the fourth time with all new art.”
To date, the Lilly Oncology on Canvas competition has received more than 4,100 entries from 43 countries. Art was accepted in the following media: acrylic, oil, pastel, photography, watercolor, fabric, and ‘other,’ which include one-dimensional mixed media. The Battle Creek program will feature more than two-dozen of those art works.
The exhibit is made possible through the generosity of Eli Lilly and Company, a leader in cancer research and treatment, and in partnership with the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and the BBC Cancer Care Center.
