A wide range of outpatient services from urgent care to diagnostic imaging are now available at Bronson Battle Creek Outpatient Center—Beckley Road. The newly named center at 5352 Beckley Road near I-94 was redeveloped recently in response to an increase in the number of people seeking outpatient care at Bronson Battle Creek facilities.
To create the new outpatient center, the space formerly occupied by Beckley Road Urgent Care was significantly enlarged and redeveloped to provide not only immediate care for non-emergency conditions, but also an additional array of diagnostic and imaging services. These services include computed tomography (CT) for three-dimensional images of the body; magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for non-invasive computer images of internal tissues; 3-D ultrasound; x-ray capabilities; bone densitometry; digital mammography, as well as laboratory testing.
“The expansion has allowed us to double the number of patient rooms; add more board-certified physicians, mid-level providers and staff; and has made it more convenient for people to receive faster walk-in care without an appointment,” said Julie Higgs, manager of BBC Outpatient Center—Beckley Road. “We’re very pleased to be able to expand urgent care services and offer the community more outpatient care options here on the south side of town.”
“At most urgent care sites, only basic diagnostic and imaging services are provided,” added Shaun Phillips, PharmD, assistant vice president, diagnostic and therapy services for Bronson Battle Creek. “But here on Beckley Road, we have many advanced services available. That’s because we’re doing everything we can to make outpatient services easily accessible for our patients. For example, patients can schedule screening mammograms at their convenience without having to have a physician’s order, and can just walk-in for basic x-ray and lab services.”
In addition to performing thousands of diagnostic tests this year, BBC Outpatient Center-Beckley Road expects to have about 20,000 urgent care visits. Providing urgent care services in a freestanding outpatient center helps reduce pressure on Bronson Battle Creek’s emergency department, which sees nearly 50,000 patients annually.
It should be understood that urgent care services are not intended to replace a patient’s primary care physician; however, they are often useful when care is needed outside of regular office hours. Patients find urgent care centers are more convenient and cost-effective than seeking treatment in an emergency department (ED) for minor injuries or non-critical conditions. From the hospital’s perspective, an urgent care site can significantly streamline care in the ED by reducing the number of non-emergent patients going to the hospital. This reduces wait time and expedites patient care in the ED for seriously ill and injured patients who require treatment in that setting.
“As more and more people are choosing Bronson Battle Creek, we are focused on providing them with the right care, at the right time, and at the right place,” said Anne Regling, Bronson Battle Creek interim CEO. “The new Bronson Battle Creek Outpatient Center—Beckley Road is a great example of that. It shows how we are responsibly working to match hospital resources with community needs, thus providing access to healthcare where it is most appropriate. With the full support of the Bronson Healthcare system, we will continue to grow programs and services in Battle Creek that keep exceptional care close to home for all Calhoun County residents.”
