Bronson Battle Creek Nurses Receive DAISY Award
Two Bronson Battle Creek nurses are recent recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Caleb Little, RN, and Cynthia McIntosh, RN, each received a DAISY Award for providing outstanding patient care during the second quarter of 2015.
Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, family members and colleagues. Here is more information about the nominations:
- Little, a nurse on the Bronson Battle Creek neurovascular unit, received two DAISY nominations and was awarded the DAISY Award for the unmatched bedside manner and kindness he provides his patients. One of his patients describes Little as “gentle, nice and friendly.” In another nomination, one of Little’s patients said, “You can tell someone has passion for their job when they can make the sickest person laugh. Because of Caleb and his dedication, I have decided that I would like to go back to school so that I can become a patient care assistant.” Little is truly an inspirational nurse and asset to Bronson Battle Creek.
- McIntosh, also a nurse on the Bronson Battle Creek neurovascular unit, received multiple DAISY nominations and was awarded the DAISY Award for the kind and friendly care she provides to her patients, as well as her ability to make her patients feel welcome and attended to, no matter how busy she is. One of her patients explained that “There needs to be more nurses like Cynthia.” Another patient said that McIntosh was “very attentive to my needs.” “She took time for me when I needed extra care.” McIntosh truly exemplifies what it means to deliver patient-centered care.
The DAISY Award is supported by the not-for-profit DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation. Bonnie and J. Mark Barnes created this foundation and award as a way to remember their son, J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick had a disease that attacked his body and was in the hospital for a long time. His nurses did such a great job with him that the Barnes family created an award that continues to recognize the excellent work nurses do every day.
