Bronson Battle Creek Only Michigan Hospital to Receive National Operating Room Designation for Nursing

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- Bronson Battle Creek is the only hospital in Michigan to earn the CNOR® Strong designation from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI). This national designation is awarded to health care facilities where at least 50 percent of operating room (OR) nursing staff have achieved CNOR® certification and where the facility itself recognizes OR nurses for improving and validating their knowledge and skills.

CNOR® certification is the gold standard for OR nurses and is earned by taking an extensive examination every five years. CNOR® is not an acronym. It is defined as “the documented validation of the professional achievement of identified standards of practice by an individual registered nurse providing care for patients before, during and after surgery.” Seventeen nurses, 63 percent of the OR nurses at Bronson Battle Creek, are currently CNOR® certified. This reflects their commitment to providing the highest quality care to surgical patients.

Patient safety and positive surgical outcomes are of utmost importance to everyone who works in surgery. “OR nurses at Bronson Battle Creek voluntarily participate in the CNOR® certification program,” says Denese Doyle, BSN, RN, Perioperative nurse manager. “Going through the certification process helps us stay current on new technology and procedures and the latest evidence-based practices. Patients deserve the best possible surgical care and our commitment to professional development through CNOR® certification helps ensure we deliver it.”
