Bronson Battle Creek Scores Another 'A' in Patient Safety
Bronson Battle Creek is one of few hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in Calhoun County to receive an 'A' Hospital Safety Score four times in a row.
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits gives the Hospital Safety Score. The Leapfrog Group assigns all U.S. hospitals a safety score of A, B, C, D or F using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Scores are calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel and updated every six months.
Bronson Battle Creek scored higher than the national average of hospitals graded in 22 of the 28 measures. The hospital did exceptionally well at outcomes measures related to preventing hospital associated infections and falls. Bronson Battle Creek also performed above average at process measures such as giving the right medication at the right time and having engaged nurses. "Over the last several years, Bronson Battle Creek has consistently focused on improving the quality and safety of care we provide," says Cheryl Knapp, vice president, system quality standards & accreditation and the chief quality officer for Bronson Battle Creek. "Receiving another 'A' score affirms we're on the right path and helps patients and families feel confident in choosing Bronson Battle Creek. Being a part of the Bronson Healthcare system helps us share best practices and learn from one another. There are a lot of uncertainties in health care right now, and one thing we can be certain of is that our teams of providers and staff are continuing the provide what they do best - excellent health care."
