Bronson Battle Creek Scores Another 'A' in Patient Safety

Fall 2013 Hospital Safety Score

Bronson Battle Creek is one of few hospitals in the nation and the only hospital in Calhoun County to receive an 'A' Hospital Safety Score four times in a row.

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits gives the Hospital Safety Score. The Leapfrog Group assigns all U.S. hospitals a safety score of A, B, C, D or F using 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors. Scores are calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group's Blue Ribbon Expert Panel and updated every six months.
Bronson Battle Creek scored higher than the national average of hospitals graded in 22 of the 28 measures. The hospital did exceptionally well at outcomes measures related to preventing hospital associated infections and falls. Bronson Battle Creek also performed above average at process measures such as giving the right medication at the right time and having engaged nurses.
