Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek Recognized for Radiation Oncology Excellence

Bronson Cancer Center team smiles after being reaccredited for Radiation Oncology Services

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has reaccredited the Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek as an APEx Accredited Program for Excellence®. Originally accredited in 2017, the designation reflects the center’s ongoing commitment to safe, high-quality radiation treatment and patient-centered care.

“Achieving reaccreditation through ASTRO’s APEx program reflects the commitment our physicians, physicists and care teams place on delivering radiation therapy with the highest standards of safety, precision and quality,” said Dr. Randy Mudge, radiation oncologist at Bronson Cancer Center in Battle Creek and physician-in-chief of oncology services for Bronson Healthcare. “For our patients, this means they can be confident they are receiving radiation therapy that meets the highest national standards.”

APEx is the fastest-growing radiation oncology accreditation program in the United States. To achieve designation, centers undergo a voluntary, multi-step evaluation of their protocols for safety, quality assurance and patient engagement. Organizations must demonstrate their safety and quality processes and show that they adhere to patient-centered care by promoting effective communication, coordinated treatments and strong patient engagement. Bronson is one of 450 centers in the country to earn this accreditation.

“This distinction affirms what Bronson has demonstrated for 125 years – patients are receiving the best care possible right here, in their community,” said Dr. Mudge.

  • Nationally recognized care. In addition to ASTRO APEx accreditation, the cancer center is also one of only 25 centers in the country to earn the Commission on Cancer's Outstanding Achievement Award.
  • A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options.
