Bronson Healthcare Reaffirms Commitment to Childhood Immunization
Recent changes to federal childhood immunization guidance have caused confusion among families and raised concerns within pediatric and public health communities. As a trusted leader in children’s health, Bronson Healthcare stresses the importance of routine, evidence-based immunization practices that protect children from serious, preventable diseases.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) continues to recommend routine vaccines for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), influenza, rotavirus, COVID-19, hepatitis A and B, meningococcus and others based on long-standing scientific data and clinical experience that they reduce severe illness, hospitalizations and community transmission. For example, the AAP recommends RSV immunization for all infants under 8 months old, and influenza vaccination for children over 6 months, while recent federal guidance limits these vaccines for certain high-risk groups or moves them to shared decision-making between caregivers and their healthcare team.
Vaccines save millions of lives worldwide each year and remain one of the most effective tools against deadly infectious diseases. Decades of successful immunization strategies have dramatically reduced childhood illness and mortality. These gains are grounded in rigorous scientific review and broad clinical consensus. Moving away from these standards risks confusion at a time when vaccination rates are declining, and preventable outbreaks are increasing.
Bronson Healthcare is dedicated to providing high-quality, locally-rooted care to safeguard the health of our communities – including our most vulnerable patients – while supporting our providers who advocate for their well-being. As such, Bronson will continue to follow the evidence-based guidance of the AAP and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to ensure children receive the protection they deserve.
