Bronson Expands Cardiac Program

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Bronson Methodist Hospital welcomes Alphonse DeLucia, III, M.D. and Michael P. Halpin, M.D. to Bronson Cardiothoracic Surgery — a new practice that treats all aspects of adult cardiac and thoracic surgery.  By opening Bronson Cardiothoracic Surgery, the cardiac program at Bronson is expanding.


While new to Bronson Cardiothoracic Surgery, DeLucia joined Bronson’s medical staff in 2000 and is now the medical director for cardiothoracic surgery at Bronson. He specializes in adult cardiac and thoracic surgery with focus on complex and minimally invasive valve surgery, aortic surgery, valve repair, arrhythmia surgery and thoracic surgery. DeLucia is board certified thoracic surgery and general surgery. He received his medical degree, summa cum laude, from State University of New York, Health Science Center School of Medicine in Syracuse.


Halpin joined Bronson’s medical staff in 1987. He specializes in aortic valve surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, surgery for arrhythmia, minimally invasive thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology and esophageal surgery. Halpin is board certified in thoracic surgery, general surgery and surgical critical care. He received his medical degree from The University of Kentucky College of Medicine.


Prior to joining Bronson Cardiothoracic Surgery, DeLucia and Halpin practiced at Cardio Thoracic Surgery.
