Bronson Family Medicine – Helmer Rd. Receives Architectural Award

The Bronson Family Medicine - Helmer Rd. facility, designed by area firm Diekema Hamann, recently received the Honor Award from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), Southwest Michigan Chapter. The Honor Award is the highest honor from the AIA SWM that an organization can receive.

Conveniently located off I-94 at Helmer Road, the 14,000 square foot Bronson outpatient facility was designed according to Lean principles. This means Bronson staff and the architects for the project focused on improving the overall patient and staff experience. The facility is laid out to reduce patient wait times and increase the amount of time that patients can spend with their doctor. It also increases speed and efficiency of the process for staff members.

“When planning for this project with Diekema Hamann, we wanted to create a different experience unlike your average family doctor’s office,” says Jim McKernan, COO of Bronson Battle Creek. “Calhoun County has a shortage of family medicine doctors – and we wanted to help alleviate that shortage, in turn making access to healthcare easier for those living in our community.”

According to the judge’s panel at AIA SWM, the building provides an exceptional patient experience, presents a contemporary take on a traditional typology, and incorporates color and natural light to create a family-friendly atmosphere.
Like all Bronson medical practices, Bronson Family Medicine uses the Epic electronic health record system. Patients benefit by accessing their health information in Bronson MyChart to view their test results, refill prescriptions, schedule appointments and send messages to their doctor. Plus, their doctors can see their health information on Epic to better coordinate their care and collaborate with specialists.

The practice provides a full range of primary care services for adults and children, from check-ups to managing chronic conditions. For patient convenience, it is open Monday evenings until 7pm and 8am to noon on Saturdays. The practice is staffed by five providers including: Simone Bruemmer, DO; Carl Kinzel, DO; Gianna Service, MD; Ashley Conklin, FNP; and Judy Cronin, FNP. To schedule an appointment with one of these providers, call (269) 245-5430.
