KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Bronson LakeView Hospital in Paw Paw and Bronson South Haven Hospital announce the recent installation of new AI-enhanced x-ray and computed tomography imaging equipment, designed with the latest software and hardware. This technology not only delivers improved image quality, but also offers the flexibility to adapt and evolve as future advancements in radiology occur.

"Investing in new technology allows us to reliably serve our communities with enhanced imaging services for all patients," says Anne Wendling, VP Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer for Bronson LakeView and South Haven Hospitals. "We continually seek new solutions to improve the patient experience, ensuring that we deliver the highest quality care to our community members."

Computed tomography, or CT scanners, play a significant role in diagnosing diseases and injuries, planning surgical or radiation treatments and identifying internal injuries or bleeding following trauma. The new equipment reduces radiation exposure, using a camera to automatically assess the best scanning parameters for each patient. In the past, CT technologists did this manually.

Kim Hubbard, Bronson’s system director of imaging, says that "the installation of these new scanners significantly enhances patient comfort and care by reducing scan times by 30 to 60 seconds. While 30 seconds may not seem long, it greatly impacts patients who need to hold their breath or maintain uncomfortable positions during the scanning process. Now the process is more efficient and less stressful for our patients, especially in trauma and emergency situations."

Over the past two years, Bronson hospitals in Van Buren County have seen approximately a 30% increase in the number of CT scans performed. Investing in new technology will help meet the growing local demand while reducing radiation dosage and streamlining the patient experience. In addition to the new CT scanner, Bronson LakeView Hospital also upgraded its mammography unit.
