Bronson Methodist Hospital Achieves "Exemplar" Status for NICHE Program
Bronson Methodist Hospital has achieved "Exemplar" status for its Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program. NICHE is the premier designation indicating a hospital's commitment to excellence in the care of patients 65-years-and-older. The "Exemplar" status recognizes Bronson Methodist Hospital's ongoing high-level dedication to quality geriatric care and interventions that demonstrate organizational commitment to the care of older adults.
The "Exemplar" status - the highest of four possible program levels - was assigned following a rigorous self-evaluation of the current state and future goals of Bronson Methodist Hospital's NICHE program. The requirements include implementation of:
- Geriatric resource nurse (GRN) model
- Evidence-based protocols
- Aging-sensitive policies that include input from patients, families and the community
- Leadership roles on a regional and national level
Bronson has been involved in NICHE for more than a decade and mentors other hospitals across the nation to become NICHE sites.
