Bronson Methodist Hospital Announces 2024 Q4 DAISY Award Recipients
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses who not only provide excellent patient care but have demonstrated a high level of compassion and empathy for both patients and their families. DAISY Award nominations are submitted by patients, family members and colleagues.
Bronson Methodist Hospital (BMH) awards four nurses with DAISY Awards on a quarterly basis. Below, read about the most recent honorees.
Ashley Fretwell, BSN, RN (Bronson Methodist Hospital, Ortho Surgical Unit)
“Ashley helped arrange a Christmas miracle for the family. The patient’s daughter was 8-weeks pregnant, and Ashley took it upon herself to arrange for an ultrasound to be performed in the room so the dying patient could see his unborn grandchild before he passed. It was truly touching.”

Kristin Hughson, BSN, RN (Bronson Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Sedation)
“Our 9-month-old daughter, Navy, required a complex medical procedure, and the process of starting her IV was one of the most challenging and emotional experiences we’ve faced as parents. Watching Navy in distress, we felt helpless, overwhelmed and consumed by fear. In that vulnerable moment, Kristin became our anchor. She didn’t just provide care—she provided reassurance, strength and unwavering support. This experience has forever shaped how we view Bronson and its mission. Kristin embodies ‘Bronson Positivity’ in its truest form. She transformed our difficult day into an experience filled with empathy, care and understanding.

Denise Olson, BSN, RN (Bronson Methodist Hospital, Pre-Operative Surgery)
“Denise is someone who has left a lasting impact on not only myself, but my husband and family as well. We will never be able to repay her for what she did for us on possibly the worst day of our lives. She truly was the angel we didn't know we needed, and for that we will forever be thankful she was ours that day.”

Caitlin Short, BSN, RN, CCRN (Bronson Methodist Hospital, Medical Intensive Care Unit)
“Caitlin would explain to my brother what she was doing. When doctors came in to talk with us, she went over things, step by step since a lot of what they were saying went right over my head. She would also ask me if I thought my brother seemed comfortable since I know him better. She made an overwhelming and terrible situation bearable.”Caitlin received two nominations.

About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award is supported by the not-for-profit DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation. Bonnie and J. Mark Barnes created this foundation and award as a way to remember their son, J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick had a disease that attacked his body and was in the hospital for a long time. His nurses did such a great job with him that the Barnes family created an award that continues to recognize the excellent work nurses do every day.
