Bronson Methodist Hospital Nurses Receive DAISY Awards for Providing Extraordinary Care During 3rd Quarter of 2017
Three nurses from Bronson Methodist Hospital are recent recipients of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Katie Comer, BSN, RN, CCRN, Sue Boot, RN, and Robert Weaver, RN, each received the award during the third quarter of 2017 for providing outstanding patient care.
Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, family members and colleagues. Here is more information from their nominations.
- Sue Boot, RN, an influx pool nurse on the extended medical care unit (EMCU), was nominated for the DAISY Award by a patient who said that Sue saved her life. “She was able to understand what was going on and communicate that information to me in a way I could fully understand in my current situation. I felt comfortable with her in the room.”
- Katie Comer, BSN, RN, CCRN, a nurse on the trauma care unit(TCU), was nominated for the DAISY Award because of her ability to remain calm and problem solve during high stress situations. A co-worker who nominated Katie explained “She is willing to take a patient without any complaints. She’s always willing to help her staff. And she is always organized and calm. I truly do not know how I would have made it thru some of my work days without her.”
- Robert Weaver, RN, a nurse in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), was nominated for the DAISY Award for his attention to detail, as well as the focus he has when working with patients and their families. “The series of checks and double checks he would go through had me leaving the NICU with the confidence I needed to get through the night.”
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award is supported by the not-for-profit DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation. Bonnie and J. Mark Barnes created this foundation and award as a way to remember their son, J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick had a disease that attacked his body and was in the hospital for a long time. His nurses did such a great job with him that the Barnes family created an award that continues to recognize the excellent work nurses do every day.
