May 07, 2007

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Six of Bronson Medical Group's primary care practices have received MPRO's (Michigan's Medicare Quality Improvement Organization) 2006 Governor's Award of Excellence for Improving Care in the Ambulatory Care Setting.

The Bronson practices recognized are: Bronson Family Practice Downtown, Bronson Family Practice Oshtemo, Bronson Family Practice Portage, Bronson Internal Medicine Associates, Bronson Internal Medicine Downtown, and Bronson Internal Medicine Oshtemo.

The award acknowledges excellence in healthcare quality and safety. The 2006 award marks the sixth year that the Governor and MPRO have honored physicians’ offices statewide.

Award criterion aligns with the Physician Office Quality Improvement Program that promotes the adoption of electronic health record systems in small-to-medium sized physician offices. The clinical topics addressed by the Governor’s Award have been designated as national healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Clinical areas of focus are individually selected from one of the following areas: preventive care, coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, or cancer screening.

“As Michigan’s Quality Improvement Organization, MPRO is privileged to recognize physicians’ offices, such as those at Bronson, for embracing quality improvement initiatives,” said Debra Moss, M.D., M.B.A., president and CEO of MPRO. Moss added, “The Governor’s Award of Excellence is a seal of quality that denotes a commitment to excellence in the delivery of high quality care.”

"Bronson providers and staff are dedicated to providing the best preventive health care services to our patients as well as to the management of chronic illness. It requires diligence to effectively treat chronic illness. Through our collaboration with MPRO, we were able to focus our efforts on process improvements in our offices,” said Laurel Wilson, practice administrator, Bronson Medical Group. “We are very proud to be a recipient of this distinguished award.”

On May 2, 2007, Governor Jennifer Granholm and MPRO honored the Bronson practices for quality improvements in patient care. A special awards ceremony was held in East Lansing.

Bronson Medical Group practices are part of the Bronson health system based in Kalamazoo, Mich.
