Bronson Recognized for Outstanding Patient Experience 2015

Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Bronson Methodist Hospital recently received the 2015 Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ for outstanding performance in the delivery of positive experiences for patients during their hospital stay. The achievement places Bronson Methodist Hospital among the top five percent of hospitals nationally and sets it apart as the only hospital in southwest Michigan to receive the award seven years in a row.

The award is based on Healthgrades’ new report, “Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Report," which explores the importance of patient experience in the overall quality of care and identifies Bronson Methodist Hospital as one of just 452 hospitals to consistently meet the high standards.

“It is a tremendous honor for us to be recognized again as one of the top hospitals in the nation based on feedback from our patients,” says Katie Harrelson, MSA, BS, RN, Bronson Methodist Hospital chief operating officer. “This reflects our core values of patient and family centered care and teamwork. At Bronson, everything we do is about creating an exceptional customer experience for patients and their families.”

To be eligible for the 2015 Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award, Healthgrades evaluated 3,575 hospitals that submitted patient surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), covering admissions from January 2013 to December 2013. Bronson Methodist Hospital’s performance was assessed by its patients across 27 different questions that roll up to 10 distinct measures. Ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in a patient room to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patient’s needs, the measures also include whether a patient would recommend Bronson Methodist Hospital to friends or family.

“Today, more than ever before, consumers face decisions – and research their options – relating to where to obtain care, so factors like patient experience are increasingly important,” says Evan Marks, Healthgrades chief strategy officer. “Consumers can have confidence that hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades 2015 Outstanding Patient Experience Award deliver a positive experience for the patient during their hospital stay.”

Bronson Methodist Hospital is also recognized in the "Healthgrades 2015 Report to the Nation: Making Smart Choices." According to Healthgrades, Bronson Methodist Hospital is among America’s 100 Best Hospitals for stroke care and among the top five percent in the nation for neurosciences and neurosurgery in 2015.
