Bronson Recognizes Working Parents of the Year

Every year, Bronson Healthcare recognizes the achievements of a Working Mother and a Working Father of the Year. Employees are invited to nominate a co-worker. The stories received from throughout the Bronson system are truly inspiring.

Congratulations to the 2014 Working Parents of the Year:

  • Marcia Brew, Staff Assistant in Medical Staff Services
  • Kevin Fitzgerald, Applications Trainer in Bronson Center for Learning

Marcia works full time as a staff assistant in Bronson’s Medical Staff Services. She is raising her two children as a single mother. Besides a busy work schedule, her children’s school and sports activities, and the obligations of a parent, Marcia takes classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College using Bronson’s tuition assistance program. In November of 2013, she purchased her first home with the help of the Bronson Home Ownership Program. Marcia’s leader states that she “is always willing to learn a new skill or pick up an additional duty to support the team. Every day she brings a positive can-do attitude, an example for all of Bronson Positivity.”

Kevin’s family expanded quickly in 2014 when he and his wife Nicole, along with their three children, fostered-to-adopt three siblings. Their family expanded to eight in just a few weeks! Their now-adopted daughter was born with bilateral retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye/optic nerve) and their youngest was merely two days old when they arrived at a local regional hospital to bring him home. Thanks to the support of friends, family and a fantastic trauma therapist, the Fitzgerald family is alive and well. Kevin says he “was blessed to utilize the Bronson adoption leave twice (only made possible by his amazing Training Team).” The first time he celebrated with his extended family when the older two children were officially adopted. The second time he was able to spend Christmas with his biological family in Canada (42 people around the Christmas dinner table) when the youngest child was officially adopted. Kevin works as an applications trainer in the Bronson Center for Learning and has been instrumental in preparing Bronson employees for Epic. His leader, Jackie Wahl, says that he is willing to do anything that needs to be done.

Congratulations to both Marcia and Kevin!
