Bronson Trauma and Emergency Surgery Welcomes New Physician

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Bronson Trauma & Emergency Surgery has welcomed to its team, Jon C. Walsh, MD, MPH, FACS.


Walsh is board certified in general surgery with special interests in traumatic brain injury, trauma systems development, aeromedical care and advanced technology used in healthcare. He completed his internship and surgical residency at San Joaquin General Hospital in Stockton, California and at the University of California, San Diego. He also served as a National Institute of Health Research fellow in surgery, burns and trauma at the University of California-Davis and the University of California-San Diego.


Walsh received his medical degree from Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He also earned a master's degree in public health from San Diego State University. He was a commander with the United States Naval Reserve Medical Corps.


Walsh is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of many associations including the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, Michigan Chapter ACS Committee on Trauma, Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society of Critical Care Medicine and American Trauma Society. He is co-chair of the Michigan State Trauma Advisory Committee.


Prior to joining Bronson, Walsh was chief of trauma and chief medical informatics officer at Borgess Health and attending staff surgeon in trauma, critical care, and acute care general surgery at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. He was also chairman of the board for West Michigan Air Care from 2004 to 2009.


Walsh joins surgeons Paul Blostein, MD, Scott Davidson, MD and Sheldon Maltz, MD, who oversee the recovery of patients who are admitted to Bronson's Trauma Care Unit, located at 601 John Street in Kalamazoo.
