Jon Walsh, MD, Bronson trauma surgeon, is among the first group of 444 physicians in the U.S. to have completed the inaugural board certification exam in clinical informatics. The degree was given by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in October 2013.
Clinical Informatics is the first new specialty to be created in more than 20 years. Clinical Informatics applies electronic health technology to patient care and improvement in healthcare processes. It includes information and pictures (such as X-rays) to help clinical decision making.
Dr. Walsh will receive his Clinical Informatics certification in January 2014 along with the other certified physicians in this leading group of informaticists.
Dr. Walsh has been involved in informatics in many capacities for more than two decades. He was key in the design and implementation of Bronson's electronic health record.
