Construction Underway on New Bronson Primary Care Practices
The Bronson Healthcare system has selected sites for seven new primary care practices that are scheduled to open in summer of 2020. Construction on five of the buildings started in August, and work on the two remaining sites will begin this fall.
As announced in January 2019, the new primary care practices will be staffed by approximately 60 providers from Portage Physicians, P.C. who will begin providing services to Bronson in July 2020. This experienced group has been providing family medicine and pediatric care in the area for many years.
Six of the offices being built for the Bronson Primary Care Partners practices will be approximately 12,000 square feet with 20 exam rooms. The Galesburg practice will have approximately 3,300 square feet and eight exam rooms.
The seven locations are:
- 6210 West Main Street, Kalamazoo (behind Bronson FastCare)—construction has started
- 2700 East Centre Ave., Portage—construction has started
- 601 S. US 131, Three Rivers—construction has started
- 8088 Vineyard Drive, Texas Corners—construction has started
- 8906 M-89, Richland—construction has started
- I-94 & 9th Street, Kalamazoo—construction starts late September

Laurel Barber, chief operating officer for Bronson Medical Group, says, “Adding seven more primary care locations to the Bronson Healthcare system will greatly enhance access for many patients in these communities. Bronson Medical Group looks forward to partnering with the providers at these new practices to coordinate care for Bronson patients so, together, we can improve the overall health status of the adults and children we serve.”
Expanding primary care locations is one of several ways the Bronson Healthcare system is working to be more consumer-friendly. Other options include Bronson FastCare walk-in clinics in Kalamazoo and South Haven and urgent care services in Battle Creek, which are convenient for treating minor illnesses and injuries. In June, the BronsonConnect Video Visit service was launched to treat similar conditions online. Individuals can connect face-to-face with a provider from anywhere in the state using a smart phone, tablet or computer. For those who are undecided about which care option is right for them, Bronson Medical Group also offers care advisors at (269) 341-7788 who can provide over the phone information and help schedule appointments.
Construction of the six larger practices is being done by CSM Group, and Diekema Hamann is providing the architectural design. In 2018, the firm received the Honor Award from the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), Southwest Michigan Chapter—the highest honor attainable—for the design of the Bronson Family Medicine facility on Helmer Rd. in Battle Creek. The six larger Bronson Primary Care Partners offices will closely mirror this award-winning design which incorporates color and natural light to create a family-friendly atmosphere. The interior layout has a workflow that reduces wait times, increases the amount of time that patients can spend with their doctor and increases speed and efficiency for staff members. New to the design are designated lactation rooms for breastfeeding moms. The smaller Galesburg location is located right off of I-94 and will include a pharmacy onsite. It will provide a similar patient and family-friendly atmosphere.
Bronson Primary Care Partners practices will provide a full range of primary care services for adults and children, from check-ups to managing chronic conditions. Pediatricians will be available at six of the seven locations − Galesburg will not have a pediatrician, however, all family medicine providers are trained to provide care for children.
Like all Bronson medical practices, Bronson Primary Care Partners will use the Epic electronic health record system. Patients benefit by accessing their health information online in Bronson MyChart to view test results, refill prescriptions, schedule appointments and send messages to their doctor. Plus, Bronson doctors can see their patients’ health information on the Epic system to better coordinate care and collaborate with other specialists.
