Four Ideas for Getting Fit Outside of the Gym this Summer
As warmer weather approaches, it’s time to get outside! Taking a break from your typical gym routine to enjoy the great outdoors is a great way to stay motivated and healthy. Here are a few simple ways to enjoy your summer while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
1. Set goals.
Although many health and fitness related goals are set in January, it’s never too late to get moving. With the beach nearby, lots of parks and walking trails, and farmers markets open for business, summer is the perfect time to get out and about. Set small attainable goals for yourself and make a plan to achieve them. Create a list of new activities you want to try and commit to completing them!
2. Be outside.
Use the nice Michigan weather as an opportunity to break your gym routine and be active outdoors. Whether it’s going for an evening walk or taking a swim in the pool, finding ways to move your body while being outside is a great way to take advantage of the warm weather.
3. Schedule some family time.
For some people, working out alone can be boring and un-motivating. Instead find activities the whole family can enjoy together. Maybe a trip to the beach includes a walk/jog along the shore. Instead of movie night, try a bike ride in the park. Small changes in your routine can create fun and excitement for the whole family.
4. Be creative.
Exercise doesn’t have to mean running on a treadmill or lifting weights. Come up with different ways to get your heart pumping. How about meeting with your personal trainer outside, going for a hike or signing up for a summer sports league. There are many ways to be fit, so find activities you enjoy and pursue them!
