HealthCare Midwest to Join Bronson Family of Companies
HealthCare Midwest and Bronson Healthcare are making plans to bring their organizations together early next year. Pending requisite legal and regulatory approvals, HealthCare Midwest, and its affiliated components, will join the Bronson family of companies as a wholly owned subsidiary. Under this ownership model, Healthcare Midwest will retain its physician-led operational structure and CEO Jim McKernan will continue as the senior executive. HealthCare Midwest’s name will change to Bronson Healthcare Midwest.
Headquartered in Kalamazoo, HealthCare Midwest is a multidisciplinary physician group that has been serving southwest Michigan since 1993. With a total workforce of 427, of which 90 are physicians and mid-level providers, it delivers care in a variety of specialties at locations in Kalamazoo, Portage, Battle Creek, Paw Paw, Coldwater, Three Rivers, Sturgis and Allegan. HealthCare Midwest physicians have medical staff privileges at Bronson Methodist Hospital and many serve in leadership roles.

The transaction is expected take a number of months to complete. The next step will be to begin working on the definitive agreements necessary to complete the transaction as well as conduct ‘due diligence’. Until the transaction is finalized in 2013, HealthCare Midwest and Bronson continue to operate separately and independently. Patients are being informed that they should not expect any immediate changes.
