New Urogynecology Practice Now Open in Southwest Michigan
Comprehensive Care for Pelvic Floor Disorders
Southwest Michigan residents now have expanded access to specialized care for pelvic floor disorders with the opening of Bronson Urogynecology Specialists in Mattawan. This new practice diagnoses and treats conditions that affect the pelvic floor—the muscles, ligaments and connective tissue that support the bladder, uterus, vagina and rectum.

Pelvic floor disorders can impact anyone, but they are most common in females due to factors such as pregnancy, vaginal childbirth and menopause. Bronson Urogynecology Specialists employs two experienced urogynecologists, Melinda Abernethy, MD, and nurse practitioner Kelli Dolbee, NP, who provide both surgical and non-surgical treatment options to improve pelvic floor function and enhance the overall quality of life for patients.
“Bronson Urogynecology Specialists is committed to providing compassionate and expert care to individuals experiencing pelvic floor disorders. Our goal is to ensure patients have access to the latest treatment options and a care team that prioritizes their well-being,” said Darcy Knapper, Director of OB/GYN Practice Operations.
Bronson Urogynecology Specialists offers expert care for a wide range of pelvic floor conditions, including:
- Bladder conditions – Overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis
- Bowel conditions – Fecal incontinence and rectovaginal fistulas
- Pelvic organ support issues – Prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction
- Pain-related conditions – Pelvic pain, vulvodynia and vulvar conditions such as lichen sclerosis and lichen planus
- Reproductive system conditions – Congenital abnormalities of the reproductive tract (Müllerian anomalies) and vesicovaginal fistulas
“We understand that discussing pelvic health concerns can feel embarrassing and even overwhelming. Our team is committed to creating a supportive and respectful environment where patients feel comfortable seeking care,” said urogynecologist Melinda Abernethy, MD.
The urogynecology team works closely with specialists across the Bronson system, including experts in obstetrics and gynecology, physical therapy and colorectal surgery. This collaborative approach ensures that each patient receives a personalized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs.
