Plans Underway for Bronson at Home Hospice to Become Part of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan
Bronson at Home is working on an agreement to sell its hospice care services and assets to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan effective March 1, 2017. In-home hospice services and the hospice residence located in Battle Creek will transition to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan without any interruption in care and all Bronson at Home hospice staff will be offered positions.
“Bronson at Home has provided dedicated hospice care for families in Calhoun County and the surrounding area for more than 30 years,” says Amy Barnes, vice president of operations with Bronson at Home. “However, changing requirements and regulations for hospice care make it difficult for us to continue to provide exceptional care as an independent and rural hospice. We believe the best course for continuing and improving hospice care in our community is to team up with a well-established partner that can bring additional experience and resources to patients.”
Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan has been serving the region as an independent non-profit organization for more than 35 years. It brings essential resources including an electronic medical record, palliative care physicians, leadership experienced in hospice care and a commitment to care for all, regardless of financial resources. These additional features and benefits will enhance care for hospice patients and their families. Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan will open an administrative office in Battle Creek in 2017.
“We have had a long-standing relationship with Bronson in the Kalamazoo area and already work together on many post-acute initiatives, such as advanced illness management,” says Jean Maile, chief executive officer of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. “This shift will further strengthen coordination and care for patients with complex conditions and at the end of life.”
Bronson at Home will remain headquartered in Battle Creek and continue to provide home healthcare services, personal care services, oxygen and medical supplies, and personal emergency monitoring.
Hospice patients and families currently being served by Bronson at Home will receive additional communications in early 2017.
