Surgeons from China Visit Bronson to Observe Neurosurgical Procedures

Chinese Surgeons With Dr Fabi

After the operation, Dr. Fabi discusses a spine surgery case with visiting surgeons from China.

Kalamazoo, Mich. -- On May 29, surgeons from China observed multiple neurosurgeries performed by Alain Fabi, MD, at Bronson Methodist Hospital. The surgeons came to Kalamazoo to view Stryker Instruments equipment being used during specialized procedures.

Stryker Instruments coordinated with Dr. Fabi from Bronson Neuroscience Center – Kalamazoo to make the viewing possible. Video equipment in the operating room allowed the surgeons from China to view the surgery in real-time from a conference room. The visiting surgeons were able to communicate with Dr. Fabi during the procedure and meet with him afterward to discuss the case.

“We were pleased to provide this opportunity. Patients benefit when medical knowledge is shared,” said Dr. Fabi.  “Our collaboration with Stryker has given Bronson a venue to share knowledge and experience with colleagues all over the world."

The surgeries conducted by Dr. Fabi included spine surgeries and an aneurysm surgery. The Stryker Instruments equipment used during the procedures included drills, a Sonopet device, cranial navigation and spine instrumentation.

Healthgrades ranks Bronson Methodist Hospital among America's 100 Best Hospitals for orthopedic surgery, spine surgery and stroke care. The hospital is also among the top five percent of hospitals in the nation for neuroscience and neurosurgery.
