Tresa Kruis Named VP of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Officer for Bronson Methodist Hospital

Kalamazoo, Mich. – Bronson Healthcare recently announced the promotion of Tresa Kruis, MSN, RN, to Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for Bronson Methodist Hospital. Kruis has been serving in this role on an interim basis following the retirement of long-time CNO, Marla Atkinson, earlier this year.
Known for her servant leadership style and for fostering inclusive, high-performing teams, Kruis has served as Director of Nursing for Bronson Methodist Hospital since 2014, leading more than 450 team members. Her career at Bronson also includes roles as Nurse Manager for the Cardiology and Medical Intensive Care Units at Bronson Methodist Hospital, as well as several positions at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.
Kruis reports directly to Kimberly Hatchel, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for Bronson Methodist Hospital. “Tresa has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to patient-centered care and operational excellence,” says Hatchel. “She has a strong passion for developing people, and her promotion is well-deserved!”
Kruis holds a Master of Science in Nursing, Leadership & Management from Western Governors University and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan. She is a board-certified nurse executive through the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AANC), Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives and the Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Leading a Team of Nurses Recognized for National Excellence
In 2024, Bronson Methodist Hospital earned its fourth consecutive Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) – the highest national honor for professional nursing practice. Magnet® designation is considered the gold standard in nursing excellence, and Bronson Methodist is proud to be one of only 14 hospitals in Michigan – and the only hospital in southwest Michigan – to hold this distinction. For patients and families, this achievement matters. Studies show that Magnet® designated hospitals have higher patient satisfaction, better patient outcomes, increased nurse satisfaction, and improved safety and quality when compared to other hospitals.
