Visitor Brings A Pick-Me-Up For Children With Cancer

Our pediatric cancer patients will be getting a little pick-me-up thanks to a Jess Ekstromspecial delivery made today. Jess Ekstrom, founder of Headbands of Hope, visited Bronson Children’s Hospital, bringing with her nearly 200 headbands. Children battling cancer will get to pick whichever one fits their personal style, whether full of sparkle or a little more subdued.

Jess’s visit to Bronson followed her energizing presentation at Catalyst University on Thursday. More than 3,000 community leaders attended the day-long annualJess Ekstrom at Catalyst event, which featured guests with inspiring stories like Jess’s.  Following Jess’s presentation, participants lined up to purchase headbands. What makes those purchases so special, is that for every headband sold, a headband is given to a child with cancer.

“A lot of these headbands I am delivering today are because of the hundreds of Headbandspeople who purchased headbands at Catalyst,” says Jess. She hopes to make a return trip to Bronson Children’s Hospital and Kalamazoo someday. One reason why: she says Kalamazoo “feels like a hug!” She explains that “Everyone has been so supportive of our mission and what we can do to help. I hope we have left a lasting impact with these headbands in return.”

Bronson is a proud sponsor of Catalyst University, presented by Southwest Michigan First.
