Each year, families from a ten-county area rely on Bronson Children’s Hospital to provide care in virtually every specialty in children’s health, and patients are never turned away because their families cannot pay. In fact, Bronson serves the largest percentage of Medicaid patients outside of southeast Michigan.
The Walk Across Kalamazoo is currently the largest fundraising event conducted by the Bronson Health Foundation in support of Bronson Children’s Hospital. Proceeds from the event go toward providing specialized services to help young patients heal physically, emotionally and psychologically.
Palliative care and other life enhancing services are vital components of care. Whether a child is suffering from cancer or cystic fibrosis, treatments like music and art therapy are proven to enhance outcomes for children suffering from illness or injury. They not only reduce fear and anxiety, they actually alleviate pain – even reducing the need for medication. These services are typically not covered or are only partially covered by insurance.
The Walk Across Kalamazoo will be held on Sunday, October 7. Family activities, displays and exhibits begin at 11:30 a.m. The Walk starts at 1:00 p.m. and is followed with refreshments until 3:00 p.m.
Walkers may choose a 5K or 2.5K route. The event begins at the Bronson Methodist Hospital parking lot at the corner of John and Lovell streets in downtown Kalamazoo.
The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children ages six and up. There is no entry fee for children age five and younger. Attendees can walk as individuals, or with a team. Visitwww.bronsonhealth.com/walkfor more information and to register.
