Bronson Battle Creek (BBC), Health Equity Alliance, and Sodexo are sponsoring three more cooking demonstration for students and their parents this spring. One at Coburn Elementary School on Wednesday, May at 5:30; at Prairieview Elementary School on Friday, May 10, from 4-5 p.m., and the final program at Urbandale Elementary School on Wednesday, May 15 at 5:30 p.m.
Chefs John Fear and Art Streano will teach two classes at each session, one for parents and the other for students on how to make simple, nutritious, economical meals and snacks.
Demonstrations will include step-by step instructions on how to prepare and cook healthful meals, offer need-to-know skills for everyday cooking, and allow participants to enjoyable food samples. BBC dieticians will talk about nutrition, label reading, and portion control.
Each family that attends will be given a Delicious Healthy Family Meals cookbook, and a bag of groceries so they can practice some of the recipes. The grocery bags typically include whole grain pastas, brown rice, olive oil, chopped garlic, four kinds of canned beans, no-salt-added diced tomatoes, pineapple, broccoli, baby carrots, celery, bell peppers, Clementine oranges, sunflower seeds, and Mrs. Dash’s seasoning packets tossed in for good measure.
